A Complete Guide to Body Contouring: Cavitation, Cryo, RF & EMS

Evidence-Based, Easy-to-Read Guidance from Our Skin Clinic | Published on

Body Contouring Treatments

Non-surgical body contouring has become one of the fastest-growing areas in aesthetics, offering clients effective fat reduction and skin tightening without the downtime of surgery. At Our Skin Clinic, we provide a full range of advanced technologies including:

  • Fat Freezing (Cryolipolysis)
  • Cavitation (Ultrasound Fat Reduction)
  • 3D Radio Frequency (Skin Tightening & Cellulite Reduction)
  • EMS Powersculpt (Muscle Toning)
  • 3D Ultimate-Pro Combination Plans

Each treatment targets a different layer of tissue. This guide explains how they work, who they’re suitable for, and the evidence behind them.

1. Cryolipolysis (Fat Freezing)

How it works: Cryolipolysis uses controlled cooling to target and destroy fat cells without harming the surrounding skin. The frozen fat cells gradually break down and are removed by the lymphatic system over several weeks.

Best for: Stubborn fat pockets, Lower abdomen, Flanks, Upper arms, Back and bra fat, Double chin (depending on applicator).

Evidence (2015–2025): A 2015 clinical review reported 20–40% fat reduction in treated areas after one session, with high patient satisfaction and low complication rates. Reference: Ingargiola et al., Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2015. A 2021 evaluation confirmed long-term safety and maintained fat reduction outcomes at 6- and 12-month follow-up. Reference: Kilmer et al., Dermatologic Surgery, 2021.

Cryo at Our Skin Clinic: Medium & Large areas, Cryo Dynamic, 3D Ultimate-Pro combined protocols, Cryo Face & Neck Rejuvenation.

2. Cavitation (Ultrasound Fat Reduction)

How it works: Low-frequency ultrasound waves cause fat cells to vibrate and break apart (lipid disruption). The body then eliminates the released fatty acids through metabolic processes.

Best for: Abdomen, Hips, Thighs, Arms, Inner thighs, Love handles.

Evidence: A 2019 study showed measurable reductions in circumference after 6–8 sessions of ultrasound cavitation, particularly in the abdominal region. Reference: Teitelbaum et al., Journal of Cosmetic & Laser Therapy, 2019.

Cavitation at Our Skin Clinic: Single areas (25 or 40 minutes), Packages of 6–8, Included within 3D Ultimate-Pro slimming programmes.

3. 3D Radio Frequency (RF) Skin Tightening

How it works: RF uses heat to stimulate collagen, tighten skin, and reduce the appearance of cellulite by contracting connective tissue and improving blood flow.

Best for: Loose skin, Cellulite, Post-weight-loss texture, Arms, abdomen, thighs.

Evidence: A 2017 review confirmed that RF treatments increase collagen fibres and improve skin laxity after multiple sessions. Reference: Kaplan et al., Dermatologic Therapy, 2017.

RF at Our Skin Clinic: 3D Radio Frequency, Body Skin Tightening, Combination with Cavitation and EMS for enhanced shaping.

4. EMS Powersculpt (Electromagnetic Muscle Stimulation)

How it works: Electromagnetic energy induces supramaximal muscle contractions — more intense than what is possible voluntarily during exercise. This builds muscle and increases fat metabolism.

Best for: Abdomen, Buttocks, Arms, Thighs.

Evidence: A 2020 clinical trial demonstrated increased abdominal muscle thickness and fat layer reduction after EMS treatments. Reference: Kinney et al., Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2020.

EMS at Our Skin Clinic: Single sessions, Packages of 6 or 8, Often paired with Cavitation for fat + muscle synergy.

5. Combination Treatments (3D Ultimate-Pro)

Combining technologies improves overall outcomes, especially for clients with multiple concerns such as fat pockets, loose skin, and cellulite.

Examples at Our Skin Clinic: Cavitation + RF, Cryo + Cavitation, RF + EMS, Cryo + 3D Ultimate-Pro slimming package.

Evidence supports multimodal approaches, showing improved circumferential reduction when therapies are combined. Reference: Mulholland et al., Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2016.

Who Is an Ideal Candidate?

Clients with:

  • Stubborn fat resistant to diet/exercise
  • Mild–moderate skin laxity
  • Post-pregnancy changes
  • Cellulite
  • Small areas needing contour, not major weight loss

Body contouring is not a treatment for obesity; it is for shaping and refining.
