Skin Boosters vs Fillers — What’s the Difference?

A Clear, Evidence-Led Guide for Clients at Our Skin Clinic | Published on

Skin Boosters vs Fillers

Many clients at Our Skin Clinic ask whether they need skin boosters or dermal fillers. Although both are injectables, they serve different purposes and work on different layers of the skin.

This guide breaks down the differences clearly and safely.

What Skin Boosters Do

Skin boosters improve skin quality by enhancing hydration, elasticity, and texture. They are not designed to add shape, contour, or volume.

They are ideal for clients with:

  • Dry or dull skin
  • Fine lines
  • Mild crepiness
  • Loss of glow
  • Under-eye dehydration

Scientific evidence shows that HA boosters increase dermal hydration and can improve elasticity when delivered in multiple sessions. Reference: Rzany et al., Dermatologic Therapy, 2017.

What Dermal Fillers Do

Dermal fillers (HA or CaHA) add structure and volume. They can restore definition or support areas affected by ageing.

Fillers are typically used for:

  • Cheeks
  • Chin and jawline
  • Lips
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Temples
  • Tear troughs (in selected cases only)

Fillers create shape, whereas boosters create hydration and quality.

Recent studies confirm fillers also stimulate collagen and improve firmness over time. Reference: Cabral et al., Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2022.

Which Is Right for You?

The decision depends on your concerns:

  • If you want hydration, glow and elasticity: Skin boosters (Seventy Hyal, Profhilo, Plinest)
  • If you want contouring, lifting, or definition: Dermal fillers
  • If you want both: Many clients combine the two, such as Profhilo for overall skin quality and fillers to support cheeks or jawline.

At Our Skin Clinic, we design personalised treatment plans based on facial anatomy, goals, and safety considerations.
